Guide: a person who advises, or shows the way to others.

While I am not trying to portray myself as an expert by any means, I do have almost a decade of experience in the game. It would be foolish of me to think I don’t have value to be delivered, and this website is my effort to do so.

Everyone walks their own path, and leaves their own mark. In terms of delivering information about BASE there are lots of people out there teaching, mentoring, making videos, and writing articles, but there is no place that brings it all together.

My goal is for this to be that place.

Every year BASE seems to get more popular with people joining the activity, and beginning their journeys. But there is equally a lot of people leaving every year. There is still very little information out there publicly to help us navigate this dangerous world. While there are lots of options to seek initial training, and coaching, from different people, we have no governing body, no regulations, and no standards. Everyone is essentially free to do whatever they want. While this is a beautiful thing in terms of freedom, it can also lead to unnecessary mistakes, and bad judgement calls from lack of knowledge.

Let’s make an effort to change that.

I’m a huge believer in stacking the deck in your favor as much as possible. Below is a list of resources I believe will be helpful. There is no replacement for good training, mentorship, and time, but it’s always good to arm yourself as much as you can.

Consider this part of the site as a working document. For new jumpers I hope it will make your learning curve less steep, and for experienced jumpers I hope it can help you gain a deeper understanding on some things.

If you feel like there’s something I could add that would be helpful shoot me as message: john@baseguiding.com
